Travel your way down the iconic Great Ocean Road, stopping at natural beauties along Victoria’s stunning coastline. Departing early from Melbourne, we’ll travel down to the coastal town of Anglesea for morning tea with a view.
Refreshed after a small snack we’ll head towards the days first highlight, the Memorial Arch. The heritage listed archway marks the start of the Great Ocean Road, the world’s longest (and most beautiful) war memorial. Stop for the perfect photo before jumping back on the bus to begin the journey down the impeccable coastline.
On our way, we will try and spot koalas in their natural habitat. Count them sitting or sleeping high in the eucalyptus trees. You might even be lucky enough to hear the songs of native Australian birds and watch as their colourful wings fill the sky.
Moving on we’ll head to Apollo Bay where you can get a taste of coastal life as you explore the beautiful beach and gorgeous town. Eat like a local in one of the quaint cafes along the main street or grab yourself a picnic of fish and chips to eat on the sand, a true Aussie tradition.
With our bellies full we’ll move onto the Great Otway National Park. You’ll need your energy as we explore the centuries-old rainforest. Marvel at ancient eucalyptus trees and soak in the picturesque rainforest around you. Watch for native birds and wild animals amongst the lush ferns and listen out for nearby flowing waterfalls. Follow the walking track back to the bus, ready to venture to our next spot.
No trip down the Great Ocean Road is complete without a visit to the iconic 12 Apostles. Breathe in the fresh sea air and marvel down at the amazing limestone stacks. Watch as the waves smash against the stacks, forming fluffy white sea foam that dances across the water surface.
Just a short walk from here you’ll find yourself at Loch Ard Gorge. Hear about the harrowing shipwrecks that plagued the coastline. Learn the story of the survivors of the Loch Ard shipwreck that lead to the area’s name. Walk down the beach stairs to the enclosed beach, or marvel at the Island Archway and Razorback from the viewing platform above.
Back on the bus, we’ll travel through the country town of Colac where we may stop for a break and a bite before returning to Melbourne with a head full of memories.
There’s no better way to see the Great Ocean Road and visit the delightful seaside attractions only Victoria can offer you.
