Heading out on a wine tour in Australia for the first time? A wine tour is a great way to sip and savour the taste of Aussie grapes.
Going on your first wine tour? Here’s how you can prepare:
- Dress appropriately
- Eat breakfast
- Stay hydrated
- Arrange transport
- Choosing the correct wine tour for your group
1. Dress appropriately
Smart casual wine attire will help you look the part!

While there is no specific uniform for wine tasting, the dress code is generally smart casual. If it’s a hot sunny day on the wine tour, darker colours might be uncomfortable, so loose fitting, brighter colours are normally a good choice.
It’s a great excuse to dress up nicely! Think of the Insta feed!
2. Eat breakfast
While wine for breakfast might sound like an interesting start to the day, you might not make it to the next tasting…

Drinking wine on an empty stomach means you could be spending the rest of the morning asleep! Make sure you line your stomach with something substantial before your day of drinking…As you may be drinking wine quite early on, it’s a good idea to line your stomach with something hearty to eat.
3. Stay hydrated
Daytime wines + sunshine + heat + air-conditioned bus = dehydration.
Most wineries will give you water alongside your wine during your tasting (as a palate cleanser) anyway, but make sure you get yourself a bottle of water in between wineries to keep yourself hydrated!
Make sure you drink lots of water! You might think there’s only a small amount of alcohol in your glass, but drinking a lot of varieties of wine in a short space of time can be a bit hectic!
4. Arrange transport
Travelling between wineries requires wheels!

Getting from winery to winery requires wheels! Whether you’re doing a self-guided drive around the different wineries, or you’re climbing aboard a wine tour bus – you’ll need to travel via bus or car if you want to get to multiple wineries with ease! We’re biased, but we think doing a wine tour is the best way to go. That means everyone involved gets to taste the wines, and you won’t have to choose a designated driver.
5. Choose the right wine tour for your group
From private charter wine tours to foodie wine tours, choosing the right tour for your group is a game-changer!

Depending on the size of your group and what kind of wines you’re interested in sampling (and whether you want lunch), choose the right kind of wine tour for you and your group.
If you’re celebrating an event with friends and family and would like something private, then it’s a good idea to look at private packages. You won’t have to wait for other guests to be picked up, and you can arrange a tailored wine tour to suit you and your private group.
