Day Tours from Alice Springs

West MacDonnell Ranges: a day trip through Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek Big Hole, and Ormiston Gorge. The MacDonnell Ranges are ancient: 350-million-year-old quartzite ridges stretching 650km east and west of Alice Springs. This is the most popular Alice Springs day tour.

East MacDonnell Ranges: Trephina Gorge, N’Dhala Gorge with Aboriginal rock engravings, and Ross River. Less visited than the West MacDonnells but comparable in terms of scenery.

Uluru day trip from Alice Springs: 4.5 hours by road (or fly). The Uluru day tours from Alice Springs either drive or fly you to the rock, run an afternoon base walk, and return in the evening or the following morning.

Multi-Day Red Centre Tours

Most first-time visitors to the Red Centre combine Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Kings Canyon in a 3 to 5-day tour. Camping under the stars is a signature experience of the outback, and multi-day tours typically use Kings Canyon Resort or permanent camp sites as overnight stops.

Best Time to Visit Alice Springs

April to September (cooler months): daytime temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees. Comfortable for outdoor touring. June to August is peak season.

October to March (hot season): temperatures regularly exceed 40 degrees. Not recommended for physical outdoor activities. Sunrise and sunset tours are still manageable.
