1 Day Fraser Island Tour Depart Hervey Bay Itinerary
After making your own way to Ticket Hut in River Heads or being picked up from your accommodation, it’s time to start your tour! The ferry will leave at 8.30 and head outs to the world’s largest sand island: K’gari, or Fraser Island. Hop on our awesome 4WD bus, equipped with aircon and large windows so you can take in all the beautiful views that await you.
One of our first stops is the famous Lake McKenzie (Boorangoora). This epic lake boasts clear water and an oh-so-white sandy beach. If you’re in need of a refreshing dip, this is the place to be. We’ll also stop at Central Station. This was once an old station with schools and shops. Now you can buy your snacks and drinks here.
Another fantastic spot is Pile Valley where you can stroll through the marvellous rainforest with majestic Satinay trees, some older than 1000 years. Along the sandy highway, that follows the east coast of K’gari, you’ll be able to see dingoes and during July and November, you might spot humpback whales.
At Eli Creek, you can enjoy the refreshing water by floating down to the sandy beach. There will be enough water as the creek pumps around 4 million litres of water back into the ocean. And the beautiful hanging trees will give you some cover from the warm sun.
We’re not done exploring just yet! From Eli Creek, it’s only a short drive to the popular Maheno Shipwreck. It’s one of the most famous icons of K’gari. Watch the waves hit the frame of the old ship while also taking in the beautiful surrounds of the island.
And finally, we’ll check out The Pinnacles. These incredible sand formations will show you all kinds of coloured sand (72 to be exact!), from red, yellow, and orange. After the pinnacles, the ferry will take us back to the mainland and arrive at River Heads around 6.30pm.
