Come and explore some of the best family friendly places the Hunter Valley has on offer!

The Hunter Valley is a beautiful region near Sydney that you should visit. It’s best known as an iconic Australian wine region, home to some of the country’s oldest vines. Even though the region is renowned for its award winning wines, there are still some family friendly places to visit!

1. Hunter Valley Gardens

The Hunter Valley Gardens offer different experiences for the whole family. The Gardens are beautiful, with 14 hectares of stunning plants to see. Throughout the year, the Gardens host spectacular events like Snow and the most popular, the Christmas Lights Spectacular! Selected events include kid friendly rides to enjoy.

2. Hunter Valley Chocolate Company

Without a doubt, the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company is a kid’s dream! The Chocolate Company is another Hunter Valley favourite, with a range of delicious chocolates, fudge, and even gelato to try.

There is the Twenty 3 Twenty Cafe, serving a range of cakes and desserts, including homemade scones, a chocolate fondue, and a classic hot chocolate.

3. Hunter Valley Zoo

For animal lovers, the Hunter Valley Zoo has all kinds of wildlife to see! Along with some experiences, the kids will love to get involved. Besides, who doesn’t love a good zoo visit?

If the kids want to get close to some animals, they can feed farmyard animals, kangaroos, and wallabies.

Kids aged between 8 and 11 years old can be a zookeeper for a day! They’ll learn about the animals and their diets, along with some behind the scenes access.

4. Hunter Valley Markets

A good market is always worth a visit while in the Hunter Valley with the family. Different markets happen during the weekends and even some on public holidays! Markets are always filled with goodness from fresh food to artisans, sweets, and some cellar doors making an appearance!

Some of the best markets to check out in Hunter Valley include Maitland Community Markets, Handmade in the Hunter Markets, and Wollombi Village Markets.

5. Wine tasting

Though the kids won’t be able to taste the wine themselves, the wineries in Hunter Valley are kid friendly, so you can bring the whole family along. Some recommended wineries we suggest include Drayton’s Family Wines, Savannah Estate, and Peterson House.

Peterson House has the kids get involved with their very own fun ice cream treat along with yummy sparkling grape juice and an activity sheet! You will have to book your own tasting experience to be able to include the kids’ treat!

Next door to Drayton’s Family Wines cellar door is Cafe 1853, serving cakes, coffee, hot chips, and delicious pizzas. The kids will love the pizza and hot chips! Savannah Estate offers a pie and wine tasting, the kids can taste some of these delicious pies if you’d like to share with them.

The Hunter Valley is a beautiful region to spend a day to a couple of days with the family. If you’re thinking of staying here for a couple of nights, some popular towns to stay in include Cessnock, Pokolbin, and Maitland.
