Cradle Mountain Day Tour from Launceston Itinerary
The day begins with a departure from Launceston as we travel through the Meander Valley. We’ll continue along the Great Western Tiers to Sheffield. Known as the town of murals, Sheffield features over 140 murals that show the history of the Cradle Mountain region. After a stroll through Sheffield, we will continue through the gorge of the Forth River and wind through the eucalyptus forests to arrive at Cradle Mountain.
Cradle Mountain is one of the most visited attractions in Tasmania and has been honoured as a Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. You will get to discover the beauty of Cradle Valley on a guided walk at Dove Lake. Your guide will provide you with fascinating insight into the region’s complex geology, ancient rainforests, and more. The hike will lead to Glacier Rock and a quartzite beach. When the sky is clear, you can take in the magnificent peaks of Cradle Mountain, while admiring Kathleen Falls across the lake.
Around midday, we will take a short break to enjoy a picnic-style lunch from a local bakery. We will then head to Weindorfers Forest. Here, we will take a short walk to view the unique moss in the rainforest and learn about the significance of its evolution.
After departing Cradle Mountain, we will stop at Ashgrove Cheese Dairy Door. This cheesemaker is famous for its cheddar. You can enjoy a self-guided tour to watch the cheese-making process through the factory windows. You can also choose to indulge in some of Ashgrove’s signature ice cream or purchase some cheese from their gourmet selection.
The Cradle Mountain adventure comes to an end as you head back to Launceston. Your guide will recommend a few fantastic restaurants to enjoy after returning to the city.
