An hour’s drive from Cairns takes you to a stunning waterfall with a large plunge pool.

On the North Johnstone River is where you can find Malanda Falls, a waterfall where the water drops down a steep slope into a plunge pool. The falls is right by Park Avenue, a main road in Malanda making it easy access to get to without walking too far.

Swimming

At Malanda Falls is a large waterfall that has created a plunge pool where you can go swimming and cool off on a warm day. Swim up to the waterfall stream or you can relax on the other end of the plunge pool.

Have a picnic at the Malanda Falls Park

Right by the magnificent Malanda Falls is an amazing picnic area at Malanda Falls Park. The area has sheltered spots, picnic tables, BBQ facilities, and toilets. Make sure you bring some picnic treats or food to cook on the BBQ and under the rainforest trees.

Malanda Rainforest Walk

The Malanda Rainforest Walk is around 45 minutes long and you can read about the different types of trees in the rainforest. The walk takes you along the North Johnstone River, through the rainforest, and over the basalt rock that was from lava from Mount Hypipamee.

Malanda Falls Visitor Centre

The Malanda Falls Visitor Centre has information for visitors to learn about the cultural heritage of the Ngadjon people. You can go to the Visitor Centre and learn about plants and wildlife to spot in the area.

Explore Malanda

Malanda is the nearby town that is a short drive from Malanda Falls. The town has eateries like bakeries, cafes, and restaurants.  You can check out the local shops or on a Saturday visit the Malanda Markets.
