Day 1: Hobart to Strahan
From Hobart, we’ll head straight to our first destination of the tour – Mt Field National Park. Here, we’ll take a scenic stroll past some of the tallest trees in the world and the impressive Russell Falls. We’ll make a stop at Lake St Clair, the deepest freshwater lake in Australia, to enjoy spectacular rainforest and mountain scenery.
Continuing our drive through the Franklin-Gordon Wild River National Park, we’ll reach the historic mining town of Queenstown.
Day 2: Wild West Coast
Tasmania’s West Coast is filled with untouched wilderness. A walk through the Tarkine rainforests will lead you to Montezuma Falls, the tallest waterfall in Tasmania. You can also take time to wander the long stretch of the giant Henty Sand Dunes.
There’s also the option to cruise down the stunning Gordon River (own cost). The river winds through Tasmanian world heritage areas with views of flourishing, rolling hills.
In the evening, we will enjoy the fresh ocean air at Ocean Beach before heading to Strahan. Don’t forget to ask your local guide to help you spot platypuses while you’re there!
Day 3: Cradle Mountain to Launceston
The famous alpine national park of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair boasts a wide range of wildlife, including wombats. Here you will have the option to choose from a range of walks catered to your level of comfort. You can embark on a short walk around Dove Lake or a casual stroll along Ronny Creek where you might be lucky enough to spot some wombats! Or you can take on a challenge and walk to Marion’s Lookout for spectacular views of Cradle Mountain National Park.
After a day surrounded by the wilderness, we will travel to the Town of Murals (Sheffield) before heading to Launceston, where you can enjoy the historic city’s sights at your leisure.
Day 4: Launceston to Bicheno
We’ll start the day by looking for local wallabies at Launceston’s stunning Cataract Gorge before driving towards more East Coast scenery. We’ll enjoy lunch in St Helens and then take a stroll along the magical Bay of Fires. Soak up the coastal views as we travel to the picturesque fishing village of Bicheno where we’ll watch the little penguins waddle to shore after a day of fishing.
Day 5: Freycinet National Park to Hobart
Day five will commence as we depart from Bicheno and journey through the Great Eastern Drive. You will spend the day marveling at the beauty of Freycinet National Park from the pristine beaches to The Hazards, a mesmerizing pink granite mountain range. You’ll have the choice to summit Mt Amos in The Hazards or continue on a walk to Wineglass Bay. The bay is an excellent lookout point into the translucent waters that line the beach along the national park.
We’ll also get to see Freycinet National Park and the ocean from a panoramic point of view at the Cape Tourville Lighthouse before returning to Hobart via the Great Eastern Drive.
Day 6: Tasmanian Devils, Richmond & Wellington Park
Our first stop for our final day together is Bonorong – Tasmania’s most famous conservation and wildlife sanctuary. Here, we’ll get a close look at lots of Tasmanian wildlife, including quolls, birds, wombats, kangaroos, and Tasmanian devils, before heading to look around the colonial village of Richmond.
