Things to Do in Perth
Easy-going Perth is packed full of personality, boasting beautiful weather, stunning beaches, and a whole host of city centre attractions. The relaxing backdrop of boutique stores, fun bars, and restaurants provide visitors with a never-ending menu of things to see and do. And, when it’s time to chill out, you can lay a blanket down in one of the pretty parks, beaches, or along the river banks.
Just outside of Perth, the vibrant port city of Fremantle promises an arty vibe with streets brimming with buskers and a creative supply of cafes and bars. Off the coast of Perth, Rottnest Island brings visitors a paradise display of sunny sands and incredible views, as well as a mesmerising array of marine life to discover.
And, for foodies, the Swan Valley offers a concoction of wining and dining experiences at the collection of boutique vineyards and seasonal restaurants that pepper Western Australia’s oldest wine region.
Perth is full of energy and vibe wherever you find yourself, and so, what are some of the things that make this far flung city such a good time?
Fremantle, or “Freo” as it’s affectionately known, is renowned as one of Australia’s artsiest areas, being a music hotspot for many years. Roaming around the markets looking for fresh food, great coffee, exuberant art or handmade clothing – it’s all under one roof!
Later on, see a band or go clubbing ‘til dawn on the Cappuccino Strip. Looking for a delicious hungover feed with an iconic hair of the dog? Then head to the Little Creatures Brewery for something scrumptious and a fresh beer!
Rottnest Island is known as a natural paradise and one of the only places in the world where you can see one of the most adorable little creatures going around – the quokka.
Aside from seeing these adorable little macropods frolicing around the island, Rottnest is home to amazing snorkelling adventures, fantastic surf breaks, plenty of fishing opportunities, Indigenous culture and museums to accommodate the history buffs!
Head to the beach
People always say Sydney is Australia’s best beach city, but these are generally people from the east coast who have never bothered to head out to Perth! The city has some truly stunning, pristine and wind-swept coastlines that rival even those found in Far North Queensland (we know – big call – but you have to see them believe them!).
Be sure to head to Peasholm-Floreat (more peaceful and gorgeous white sand), Freo’s South Beach (plenty of amenities like basketball courts and pontoons) or City Beach (for a bit of lively, inner-city atmosphere).
The Swan Valley is one of Australia’s true gourmet regions, producing some of the country’s most delightful food and wine. It is absolutely replete with awesome attractions that keep you fascinated, full and a little bit tipsy throughout your stay, including the likes of Ugly Duckling Wines, Yahava Koffeeworks, Mandoon Estate and Whiteman Park – all of which provide some kind of food, beverage or even a little family fun between the vino!
