6 Day Esperance & Margaret River Camping Tour Itinerary
Discover the natural wonders of Australia’s South West – from the pristine white beaches that stretch along the coast to the lush forests of Walpole – on our 6 Day South West Camping Tour. Marvel at the spectacular naturally-formed rock formation of Wave Rock and see the breathtaking turquoise waters of Lucky Bay – and if you’re lucky enough, be greeted by a western grey kangaroo! This six-day journey will be sure to give you the real Australian experience as you settle each night inside your swags!

Day 1: Perth to Margaret River
We commence our adventure from Perth with a two hour volunteer experience with FAWNA. FAWNA is a volunteer-led conservation group that cares for injured or orphaned animals. Volunteer opportunities will vary day to day, but you’re sure to enjoy this experience alongside other eager volunteers.
We’ll enjoy a coffee in Busselton before heading to the Ngilgi Caves. Here, you’ll be treated to an unforgettable Koomal Dreaming Indigenous experience. Be amazed by the impressive cave chambers and illuminated marvels as you wander the underground boardwalks.
You’ll have a nice picnic lunch before visiting a few cellar doars in the Margaret River region. In the evening we arrive at Big Valley Caravan Park for dinner and our first night of swag camping under the stars.

Day 2: Margaret River to Walpole
Start the morning by watching a favourite pastime of Margaret River locals – surfing. We head to the aptly named Surfers Point to watch the brave riders on the waves before exploring one of the most scenic sections of the famous Cape to Cape walk. The 6km hike between Redgate Beach and Contos takes you past pristine beaches and impressive rocky cliffs.
Having worked up an appetite, we feast on the delicious local fare of Margaret River. Here you’ll get the chance to explore and browse what Margaret River and the surrounding region have to offer including wineries, boutique breweries, chocolate and cheese factories.
After lunch, we travel through the towering forests of Walpole Wilderness Region and visit WA’s largest tingle tree. Enjoy one of WA’s famous ocean sunsets before bedding down in Peaceful Bay.

Day 3: Walpole & Albany Region
Begin the day with a walk along Peaceful Bay before travelling to William Bay National Park. We’ll stop for a swim at Green Pools then start our journey along the picturesque coastal drive towards Albany. Along the way, we’ll admire the spectacular sculpture rock formations of the coastline including the Natural Bridge, The Gap, Elephant Rocks.
In the afternoon we arrive in the Porongurups for a two-hour hike to the top of Castle Rock. The climb can be a bit challenging, but you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the region when you reach the summit. We’ll spend the night at Mt Trio in the Stirling Ranges at our tranquil private campsite.

Day 4: Mt Trio to Cape Le Grand National Park
On day four, prepare to be blown away by the stunning natural beauty of WA’s south coast as we travel along one of the most picturesque coastal drives in Australia. Enjoy a swim at the iconic Twilight Beach before we stop for morning tea in the township of Esperance.
As the day progresses, we enjoy some truly breathtaking Australian scenery at Cape Le Grand National Park, setting up camp in this magnificent national park. Here you have a view of the transparent ocean, where the local western grey kangaroos often lay sunbaking on the beach. The area is famous for its spectacular beaches, including Lucky Bay, considered to have the whitest sand in Australia.
You’ll get a free afternoon here to spend the day however you like! Try a coastal bushwalk, taking some spectacular memorable photos or simply relaxing with your new friends along the pristine beaches of this magnificent national park.
Our swag camp for the night will be at the Cape Le Grand, where you can enjoy the ultimate star-gazing night sky while you sleep the night away.

Day 5: Cape Le Grand National Park
Waking up in the stunning surroundings of Cape Le Grand National Park, enjoy a spectacular sunrise and say good morning to the local roos. We spend the day exploring the amazing coves and beaches of Cape Le Grand with walks before taking in the sunset from the summit of Frenchmans Peak. In the evening, we share our last dinner together before our final night camping.

Day 6: Esperance to Perth
On our final day, we have a lot of ground to cover back to Perth before we say goodbye. We’ll stop on the way at the weird and wonderful Wave Rock for some photo opportunities of inland “surfing”. Marvel at the historic township of WA’s oldest inland town, York before we travel through the Darling Ranges to arrive in Perth in the evening.
