From Melbourne your Phillip Island & French Island Wildlife Adventure takes you south. A short crossing of the crystal-clear waters of Western Port Bay by ferry brings you to French Island. Hopping from one mode of transport to another, you’ll be guided across the island’s 4×4 tracks in search of some of Australia’s most loved species, including tree-hugging koalas.
While these lovable creatures munch their way through the eucalyptus, you’ll have the chance to sample some of the island’s best local produce with a farmgate lunch (winter) or afternoon tea (summer).
Crossing the waters to Phillip Island, you’ll have the chance to stroll along the pier and esplanade area of Cowes, checking out its many stylish boutiques and microbreweries before heading on to the Nobbies boardwalk. Winding its way around Point Grant, the boardwalk offers amazing sea views as well as the chance to view the island’s wild seal populations as birds drift overhead on the thermals.
As the sun begins to set, it’s time to head to the beach. Every day at this time little penguins make their way ashore to the accompaniment of a commentary by conservationists. The cute flightless birds waddle towards their borrows in the largest colony of this species anywhere in the world. A wonderful way to end your tour of Phillip Island and French Island, you’ll then return to Melbourne via San Remo, skirting the eastern edge of Western Port Bay.
