Firstly, we’ll head to Ballarat, a perfect example of an old town that prospered during the gold rush. It’s a charming city filled with 19th century buildings, manicured gardens, and a whole host of history. We’ll take a complete town tour here, taking you through the impressive streets, past notable churches, and the Eureka Stockade Centre.
We’ll also visit Lake Wendouree while we’re in the area before we move on to Sovereign Hill.
Sovereign Hill is a well-known heritage park that sits on the site of the richest gold rush in the entire world. Here, you’ll have the chance to explore some of the most pivotal parts of history, including the Red Hill Gully diggings, the Gold Museum, and Main Street. To get the full historic experience, you can also ride a stagecoach, check out the blacksmith, and tuck into some Devonshire tea at the New York Bakery (own expense).
We’ll then take you back to Melbourne where you’re foray into the past sadly comes to an end.
