Darwin to Adelaide Tour
Travel from the Top End of Australia right down to the bottom, through the spectacular Red Centre and arriving in the magnificent city of Adelaide on our Darwin to Adelaide Tour. On the way you will take in iconic landmarks, stunning scenery and breathtaking sunsets!
We leave from Darwin and travel through the Red Centre, visiting Mataranka Hot Springs to enjoy a dip in the sandy-bottomed thermal pool on our way to Alice Springs. Visit unique rock formations including the granite boulders of the Devils Marbles, Kata-Tjuta and of course the famous Uluru, before crossing the border to South Australia. Making our way through South Australia we’ll visit Flinders Ranges before arriving in the vibrant city of Adelaide. Accommodation for our Darwin to Adelaide Overland is mostly camping under the star-studded desert sky in swags and with dormitory accommodation in Daly Waters and Coober Pedy.

Our Darwin to Adelaide tour combines our Darwin to Alice Springs and Alice Springs to Adelaide tours to offer you the best flexibility in one great value package. You select your travel dates for each tour, meaning you can spend extra time in Alice Springs or keep travelling straight to Adelaide. Accommodation is included while on tour, but we leave the accommodation in Alice Springs between tours up to you.
These tours are suitable for travellers aged 18 – 49 years. We do not recommend this tour for travellers over 50 years, however contact us if you consider yourself young at heart and still wish to join the tour. Minimum age for travel is 8 years, but please consider whether this style of travel is suitable for your child.
This tour requires a reasonable level of fitness.
Luggage is restricted to a maximum of 7kgs per person. If you are travelling with more than 7kgs, please notify us when you book.

Day 1: Darwin to Mataranka
We kick start our Darwin to Adelaide tour by heading down the Stuart Highway, cutting through the middle of the Red Centre. We stop off to enjoy the Katherine Gorge of Nitmiluk National Park to spend the afternoon relaxing and swimming in the Katherine River. We then continue onto Mataranka where we will spend our first night.

Day 2: Manaranka to Banka Banka Station
Wake early to enjoy a hearty breakfast before we make our way to the Mataranka Hot Springs, where you will have the chance to relax and soak in these thermal springs. After a therapeutic break, we will continue on to the famous Daly Waters Pub for a cold drink before we continue to Banka Banka Station where we will spend the night.

Day 3: Banka Banka Station to Alice Springs
Starting our morning we begin the journey towards Alice Springs, we will stop by to discover the iconic Karlu Karlu also known as the Devils Marbles. The gigantic granite boulders are a site of unforgettable natural beauty! Shortly after, we will be arriving in Alice Springs.

Depending on when you travel, you may have some free days in Alice Springs between the two tour legs. Explore the town or check out our one day tour to the West MacDonnell Ranges.

Day 4: Alice Springs to Uluru
Departing Alice Springs, we take you on a journey to the rugged Australian Outback and Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock. Have your camera ready to snap pictures of the breathtaking Uluru! A visit to the Uluru Kata Tjuta Aboriginal Cultural Centre will fill you in on the fascinating history of the region’s indigenous heritage, before we take a relaxing stroll around the base of Uluru. To end your day, view the breathtaking sunset overlooking Uluru before nestling inside your swag under the stars.

Day 5: Uluru
Day 6 we start our morning early with breakfast before our journey to Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, to witness the awe-inspiring sunrise. Nothing will prepare you for the views you will see of the incredible formation of Kata Tjuta, and its rugged and wild landscapes. To end our day, we’ll head to the campground at Kings Canyon.

Optional activities: Helicopter flights, Segway tour, camel safari and skydiving in Uluru.

Day 6: Uluru and Kings Canyon
After an early breakfast, we journey to Watarrka National Park, also known as Kings Canyon. Be sure to have your camera ready to capture the astonishing views and soaring sandstone walls of Kings Canyon. The Canyon Rim Walk takes 3-4 hours to explore the spectacular Garden of Eden and admire the vast sandstone landscapes of surreal gorges that are unlike anywhere else in the country.

Day 7: Kings Canyon to Coober Pedy
We start bright and early to journey to the Opal Capital of the World, Coober Pedy and breathe in the incredible vast changing landscape of this region. Enjoy the opportunity to explore the Opal Mine and Museum where you can learn about the fascinating history of this unique town. We visit Josephine’s Kangaroo Orphanage, to meet some of the rescued kangaroos and baby joeys or maybe even buy a piece of Aboriginal art or didgeridoo to take home with you. To end the day, we experience how the locals sleep and curl up inside our underground bunkhouse!

Day 8: Flinders Ranges
Getting up bright and early we venture further south into the rugged and rocky gorges of the Flinders Ranges. On the way, we’ll get the opportunity to view the saltwater lakes in Pimba before arriving in Wilmington to settle inside our swags amongst the red gum trees.

Day 9: Flinders Ranges to Adelaide
Before your Darwin to Adelaide Tour ends, we go for a stroll to see the magnificent Alligator Gorge, which is overflowing with wildflowers and array of unique wildlife. If you’re lucky enough, you might even get a chance to get a close encounter some wild wallabies or kangaroos. Before travelling along the last leg to Adelaide, we enjoy our last lunch together as a group.
