Jump on board and experience the steepest passenger railway in the world!
Scenic Railway is one of the three rides you can access when at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains. The Scenic Railway was once part of the 1800s Katoomba mining tramways.
On the Scenic Railway. you will go through a cliff tunnel before exiting and seeing a picturesque view of the mountains and Jamison Valley. You’ll arrive on the floor of Jamison Valley and have the chance to explore.
For added excitement on the ride, you can adjust your seat position. There are three different experiences from the cliffhanger, something more laidback, or keep your seat position how it is.
The best way to experience the thrill on the Railway is to descend into Jamison Valley.
Scenic World
When you visit Scenic World, you will want to spend between one to two hours to go on the three rides and the walk.
-
Scenic Cableway
Go into a cabin and enjoy incredible views of Jamison Valley, the Three sisters, Mount Solitary, and Orphan Rock. We recommend going on the Cableway after you’ve explored the Jamison Valley floor.
-
Scenic Skyway
Enjoy some of the best views you will get of the area as you glide between the cliff tops. You will see Katoomba Falls, the Three Sisters, Jamison Valley, and Mount Solitary.
-
Scenic Walkway
When you’ve reached the Jamison Valley floor, you can do the Scenic Walkway. The walkway is a short 10 to 20 minute walk between the Railway and Cableway stations.
Walking along the boardwalk, you will see some native plants that date to the Jurassic era! You’ll also spot the original mine entrance and other mining elements. Make sure you keep an eye out for any wildlife, especially birds!
What can I do nearby?
Nearby you can explore Katoomba which is the main town in the Blue Mountains. Katoomba has shops, cafes, and restaurants where you can try delicious fresh food.
Of course, seeing the Three Sisters is a must when you’re in the area. While in Scenic World you would’ve seen the Three Sisters from the Cableway and Skyway. But a great place to see the iconic rock formation is Echo Point lookout.
