Travel along the south coast of Australia from the arty city of Melbourne to laid back Perth, taking in iconic landmarks, unforgettable scenery and colourful characters along the way. Starting in Melbourne, we journey along the Great Ocean Road and up to the Grampians to experience some of Victoria’s most spectacular terrain. We cross the border over into South Australia heading straight for Adelaide – a foodie haven.
We keep heading west, taking time to explore the remarkable Flinders Ranges and Eyre Peninsular. We cross the Nullarbor over into Western Australia, arriving at the picturesque coastal town of Esperance, where we can hope to spot some kangaroos lazing on the snow-white sandy beaches. On the home stretch, we journey through the wine country of Margaret River and WA’s southwest region before arriving in sunny Perth! Accommodation is a mix of dormitory and camping under the stars, so you can enjoy a true outback experience!

Our Melbourne to Perth tour combines our Melbourne to Adelaide and Adelaide to Perth tours to offer you the best flexibility in one great value package. You select your travel dates for each tour, meaning you can spend extra time in Adelaide or keep travelling straight to Perth. Accommodation is included while on tour, but we leave the accommodation in Adelaide between tours up to you.

Day 1: Great Ocean Road
Start your adventure with a sample of Victoria’s best beaches along the Great Ocean Road. Day one offers several photo opportunities including famous Memorial Arch and up close interactions with iconic native Australian animals. For lunch, enjoy a break in Apollo Bay prior to a guided walk in the Otway rainforest. In the afternoon we arrive at the highlight of day one – the iconic 12 Apostles. To finish off the day, we enjoy spotting kangaroos at night time as we head up to the Grampians National Park. Accommodation for the first night is located amongst the stunning scenery of the Grampians National Park.

Day 2: Grampians National Park to Adelaide
We spend the second day of our tour exploring the spectacular Grampians National Park. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for native Australian wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas and koalas. Savour the dramatic landscape with a walk to Reed’s Lookout or Lake Bellfield, check out McKenzie Falls or Silverband Falls, and view some impressive ancient cave paintings. From the Grampians National Park, we continue onto the state of South Australia and make our way to Adelaide.

Day 3: Flinders Ranges National Park
On Day three of our 12 Day Melbourne to Perth Tour, we start the day early and head out of Adelaide City, on route to Perth across the Nullarbor. We head north out of Adelaide and make our first pit stop in the quaint town of Clare for a quick coffee, prior to continuing towards the Flinders Ranges. We stretch our legs with a hike and lunch at Alligator Gorge, before exploring Warren Gorge where we camp out under the stars of the Southern Cross.

Day 4: Coodlie Park and The Eyre Peninsula
We begin our journey to the stunning and picturesque region of the Eyre Peninsula. On the way, we’ll pass some unique silo art in the tiny town of Kimba. We stop off for a quick lunch break before we hit the road again and head towards Venus Bay, Talia Caves and the Lake Newland sand dunes. At the Lake Newland sand dunes, enjoy the thrilling experience of sandboarding. In the afternoon we will arrive at Coodlie Park where we will spend the night at the unique bush camping ground. We spend the night sleeping in swag huts, with shower facilities available for use.

Day 5: Baird Bay and Surf Lesson
On Day five, we make our way to Sceale Bay for surfing lesson on a pristine remote beach. Those not wanting to surf will be able to relax along the beach or explore Scelae Bay itself.
Enjoy a relaxing picnic style lunch before we make our way to Baird Bay. The bay is renowned for its charismatic aquatic wildlife. In the morning you will be given the opportunity to either swim, snorkel or splash about with cuddly sea lions and dolphins on a 3-hour cruise. This upgrade costs $180 per person, however, this is a memory which will last a lifetime and is well worth the expense

Day 6: The Great Australian Bight
Day six offers travellers a real Aussie vibe and experience as we pass by several iconic landmarks on the long drive across the Nullarbor Plain. Begin the day by crossing the 5,320-kilometre dingo fence. There will be a photo opportunity at the famous 96km wombat, emu, camel road sign on the Nullarbor and a trip to the Bunda Cliffs shows how Australia literally drops off into the ocean. In the evening, we cross the South Australian border and arrive in Western Australia.

Day 7: Esperance to The Cape Le Grande National Park
On the seventh day of our Melbourne to Perth tour, we wake early to cross the last part of the Nullarbor Plain, with a visit to the Caiguna Blowhole on the way. We pay a visit to two small towns, Balladonia and Norseman. Both these small towns have a slight intergalactic atmosphere about them. Balladonia has been well known globally since 1979, when the Skylab space station made an abrupt return to Earth. Once we’ve enjoyed a hearty lunch, we continue onwards to Esperance, a picturesque coastal town and our gateway to the Cape Le Grande National Park, where we set up camp for the night.

Day 8: Cape Le Grande National Park
The Cape Le Grande National Park is our base for the day. How the day is spent is completely up to you! Explore the crystal-clear waters, the soft white sands, or the impressive granite bluffs. Throughout the day, you have the opportunity to set out on a coastal bush walk, enjoy a leisurely swim in the sea, or just relax and capture photographs along the beach with your fellow travellers.

Day 9: Stirling Ranges
Wake up refreshed, before taking a leisurely morning stroll down to the beach and spot Australian kangaroos. We say goodbye to Cape Le Grande National Park with a hike up Frenchman’s Peak to take in the incredible views across the Recherche Archipelago. The journey continues westward towards the Stirling Ranges, with a lunch stop at one of the many stunning beaches along this stretch of road. We’ll set up camp for night at Mount Trio.

Day 10: Porongurups & South West Coast
Day ten starts with a visit to the Porongurups, the oldest mountain range in the world. We enjoy a challenging hike to Castle Rock, through spectacular forests to reach the top and admire incredible views over the region. Then we hit the road and head for the coast again. Throughout the day, you will be treated to incredible views of sun-bleached boulders, crystal clear waters and surreal red-rocky cliffs. We’ll get amazing photos at the Gap, Natural Bridge and Elephant Rocks, with a refreshing swim at Green Pools. To experience a variety of landscapes, we move onwards from the coast and veer off into the forest, with a stop at the largest Tingle Tree in Western Australia. We swag camp at a caravan park at Quinninup.

Day 11: Quinninup to Margaret River
Quench your thirst and test your taste buds on our second last day of our Melbourne to Perth Tour. Climb the 50 metre Diamond Tree (if you aren’t afraid of heights!), a native karri tree that was previously used as a fire lookout. Then we head out to enjoy boutique breweries, wineries as well as chocolate, cheese and even a fudge factory, in the peaceful Margaret River region. Today, you will have plenty of time to browse and explore the region.

Day 12: Margaret River to Perth
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Wake up on the final day of your trip, with the sounds of kookaburras and cockatoos in the background. We take the coastal road to the city of Perth and enjoy our final swim at the popular seaside town of Busselton. On the way, we stop by the Ngilgi caves, and learn of the amazing underground world thanks to the Wardandi custodian Josh. There is no greater way to gain insight into the region than by meeting the local Indigenous people of the area, and Josh will take you underground to taste native foods, experience traditional fire lighting and learn about bush medicine for a unique cultural experience. One last journey on the road sees the tour arrive in the City of Perth prior to dinner.
